What a Langkawi Wedding Photographer Costs in 2027

By Jon Low

Langkawi weddings start from RM 8,000.

So what is a couple paying for? Experience. Not only in photography, but in running a wedding day. How the day moves, hour to hour and minute to minute, and how it feels on the ground. That goes into what the couple goes through on the day. And it is what turns a wedding day into a well crafted collection of photographs.

A half day ends at 8pm. It covers the family portraits, the ceremony, sunset portraits and the dinner walk in.

A full day covers the whole wedding. Getting ready, family portraits, the ceremony, and sunset portraits of the bride and groom and the wedding party. Then the dinner walk in, speeches, first dance and the send off.

Most of my Langkawi couples book the full day.

Reading the room

I would like to think I am good at reading the room. Knowing when to step forward and take charge, and when to step back and let weddings be weddings. And being aware of where I am, amongst the guests, the families and the couple.

I step forward for the big group photographs. A crowd needs someone in control, and clear with their words.

I set things up so moments can happen. Where the bride gets ready, for one. Better light, a better frame, or just a better room, and the moments come easier.

But when a moment is unfolding, I hold back. I don’t interrupt it for a shot. And I don’t ask for it again.

Two photographers on the day

Two photographers is vital. A full scale Langkawi wedding has a lot of logistics, and a lot of moving around. So we split. One of us follows the bride’s side, the other the groom’s. And while I am photographing the bride’s family, the second photographer is at the ceremony, with the set up and the guests arriving.

Why an elopement has no guests

An elopement is intimate and small. That is why I photograph it on my own. Once there are guests, I can’t be in 2 places at once. Hence, no guests.

What Instagram does not show

Instagram shows the photographs, and they may well be beautiful. What it can’t show is the day itself. How the photographer actually works with the people, and with the bride and groom.

The photographs are from Chery and Jiawei’s wedding and Monica and Rui’s elopement, both at Four Seasons Langkawi.
